Salvador Dalí

Idylle atomique et uranique mélancolique

In 1945, under the impression of the August 6th Hiroshima atomical weapon explosion, Salvador Dalí paintet his painting Idylle atomique et uranique mélancolique (Melancholische Atom- und Uranidylle).

This first atomical weapon, with the nice name “Little Boy”, caused a shock to Dalí. Under this influence he painted also L’Ápothéose dHomère (Apotheosis of Homer) and others. With this paintings he introduced a new technique which he called “nuclear” or “atomic” painting. In Leda atomica (1949) this technique found its climax.
